Rosie Murrell (she/her) is a multidisciplinary graphic designer and illustrator based in Nipaluna-Hobart. She frequently explores themes of belonging, home and nature in her work, and is deeply inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Lutruwita/Tasmania. She has worked on State and national design campaigns on mainland Australia; now that she has returned home she dabbles in linocut printmaking, has a stall at local markets and online, and picks up freelance graphic design work for good causes.

Tasmanian Island Lighthouses

Maatsuyker Island Lighthouse bullion coin, the first in a series of four island lighthouses.

'I am intrigued by the idea of lighthouses as sentinels, dotted around to provide guidance and look out over the seas. The contrast of the smooth, conical structure of the lighthouse in the midst of highly textured and organic landscapes holds a strong visual and whimsical appeal. The lighthouses chosen for this collection are Tasman Island, Bruny Island, Iron Pot and Maatsuyker Island; the main four lighthouses surrounding nipaluna/Hobart. Each of these lighthouses are iconic, and set in dramatic, remote locations. While still active (now automated), they represent times gone by, generations of families who have lived and worked in these remote places to ensure safe passage.' Rosie Murrell
